POSSO celebrated the holidays with its traditional Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 17.
POSSO thanks the generosity and good will of friends and volunteers. Artist and entertainer Emily once again graced the afternoon with her special talent. Volunteers from the Mt. Pleasant High School Portuguese Club served refreshments to a full house. Christmas carolers from neighboring Portuguese organizations also stopped by to spread Christmas cheer! The afternoon was topped off by a visit from Santa bearing chocolate treats for all.
See photos of the Holiday Open House in POSSO’s Facebook album.
Dra. Maria Alves Cavaco Silva, wife of President of Portugal Prof. Aníbal António Cavaco Silva, visited POSSO on November 14. She accompanied her husband on a week-long trip to the United States during which he met with President Barack Obama in the White House, addressed the UN Security Council, visited Silicon Valley and Stanford University, and met with business leaders and representatives from the Portuguese American resident communities in New York, New Jersey, Washington and California.
On November 13 at the Fairmont Hotel in San José, President Cavaco Silva hosted a dinner for 800 guests in honor of the Portuguese Community of California. The proceeds from the dinner were presented to POSSO by Dra. Maria Alves Cavaco Silva. She addressed the seniors and staff gathered to greet her at POSSO and graciously greeted many individuals.
Please join us for our Thanksgiving celebration and dinner at the Portuguese Community Center. We will also be delivering dinner to the home-bound. Please contact POSSO by November 9 if you are home-bound and would like to have a delicious Thanksgiving dinner delivered to your home. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
POSSO is in great need of two new or gently used computers. Our computers are very old and have been repaired many times by our expert volunteers who now tell us that they are beyond repair and must be replaced. We are currently using all of our resources to provide direct services to the community and cannot afford to purchase equipment. Our computers enable us to maintain services and financial data that we must report to the government agencies and foundations that provide POSSO with grants, as well as to support staff in their daily work. Please contact us if you can help.
